On the 23rd of February 2017, the FinTech Association of Malaysia (FAOM) hosted a Chinese New Year Cocktail Party for both FAOM members and non members. It was held at the PJ8 Serviced Suite, a venue sponsored by GetCover. The evening was attended by 50 guests who consist of the FAOM committee, established and young startup founders, bank executives, subject matter experts, investors, creative directors, coaches, lawyers and many more. The event was also made possible with the kind sponsorship of Jirnexu and Soft Space.
At 7.00 pm, the guests started to arrive and were soon mingling with one another. Amidst the faint melody of Chinese New Year songs playing in the background, the guests helped themselves to variety of beverage available and the scrumptious cocktail buffet. The food was cooked to perfection and beautifully decorated by the Brick House Group. Not only was it pleasant to the eyes, it was pleasant to our guests’ palates as well.
As the room gradually fills up, David Fong, the President of FAOM gives a welcoming speech to fellow guests and FAOM members. In his speech, he urges the FinTech community to join FAOM as members so that collectively they can represent a bigger voice in this space. This will enable a more coordinated and consorted effort to discuss and resolve issues faced by the industry players. The speech was followed by an invitation to the banquet table for ‘lou sang’, a Malaysian Chinese tradition during the festive period, which is the act of tossing raw fish salad while saying good and auspicious wishes for the year.
The evening continued with more networking and laughter. The customary of exchanging business contacts and ideas can be seen. It was a splendid event where FinTech enthusiasts gathered to form stronger bonds between each other as they work hand-in-hand to strengthen the FinTech foundation in Malaysia.
As guests leave with heart-warming smiles, the party finally came to an end by 10.30pm. The FAOM Committee and Transcendz would like to thank all of our guests for taking time off on a Monday night to celebrate the coming Year of Rooster together. We wish all of you and readers, ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai!”.
