FinTech Payment Conference 2016
The FinTech Payment Conference 2016 was held on the 19th of November 2016 at MaGIC Cyberjaya. This conference was organized by Transcendz in collaboration with Next Money KL and main sponsors – GHL, Merchantrade and Owners Circle. In light of the vast area FinTech is involved, the conference aims to highlight the impact of FinTech particularly in the payment sector. The conference was sold-out event with a total turn up of 300 attendees.
The 9.5 hours conference had a great line up of speakers starting with Raj Lorenz, the Group CEO of GHL Systems Berhad on Payments 101. It is then followed by Tan Nyat Chuan, the Director of Payment Systems Policy Department of Bank Negara Malaysia. He spoke about democratising finance as a solution for all. Panel members were invited to discuss whether big banks, little disruptors and those in between would be in competition or cooperation. The panellists were Yap Kok Tee (Executive Director, Country Head – Channels of UOB Bank), Praveen Rajan (Chief Digital Officer of Digi) and Jeremy Chong (Managing Director of PrimeKeeper). This session was moderated by Julian Ng (Presenter and producer of BFM 89.9).

The conference resumed after a networking lunch with speaker Ruben Tan, the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Neuroware on breaking down blockchains. Sharifah Roziah, a specialist at MyCERT, Cybersecurity Malaysia spoke about payment security: whether money and personal information are truly safe. The last topic of the day touches on Malaysia and ASEAN’s future of payment solutions and how we are moving forward. The panellists were Kanags Surendran (Head of Digital Banking of CIMB), Yuen Tuck Siew (CEO of Jirnexu Sdn Bhd) and Chang Chew Soon (Founder and CEO of Softspace). This session was moderated by Zaim Mohzani (Co-founder and principal of Nation Building School).
FF17 FinTech Semi-Finals
The attendees were also encouraged to spectate the FF17 Fintech Semi-Finals Malaysia pitching competition which was held immediately after the Payment Conference. The pitching competition was judged by Siti Shafinaz Md Salim (Head of Programme and Policy Department of Cyberview), Gopi Ganesalingam (Vice President of Enterprise Development of MDeC), Amran Hassan (Head of Corporate Development and Innovation of Maybank), Sam Evans (VP Business Development and Head of Senjo Ventures) and Jason Lee (Co-founder of NextMoney KL).
The 9 Start-ups that participated in the pitch were MyCash Online, Echeq, PomelloPay, BolehCompare, Save4Dream, HelloGold, Wonderlist Property, MyFinB and RST Global NEM LUX-Tag. After much deliberation by the judges, MyCash Online emerged as the winner. MyCash Online will be pitching at the Regional Semi-Final of FF17 in Hong Kong.
