The first Wongamania: Banana Economy Tournament in Malaysia was held on the 26th of November 2016 at Borders Bookstore, The Gardens, Mid Valley. A total of 43 people participated in the tournament. Everyone showed great sportsmanship albeit some playing the game only for the first time that day. The event lasted for 5.5 hours from 9.00am till 2.30pm.
Using the double-elimination format, there were a total of 5 rounds played. In other words, every player will have a second chance in winning the championship. The players compete for 30 minutes in either a table of 4 or 5. The winner(s) of the table would then advance to the upper bracket whilst the losers drop to the lower bracket and exercises their second chance. Players who are eliminated from the tournament were allowed to participate in side quests. There was no time limit given for the side quests as compared to the tournament rounds.
Every table is facilitated by a non-player. For a twist of surprise, the final round of the tournament was facilitated by Xeo Lye, the game designer of Wongamania: Banana Economy.
Upon calculation of score, there was a tie between 2 players. The tie was resolved by throwing of the productivity die. Spectators cheered in excitement as they watched the 2 players throwing for the higher score on the die. Finally, Teo Kok Yan emerged as the champion of the tournament. The prizes include RM500 cash prize, an American Eagle silver coin, a Wongamania: Banana Economy set, a Wongamania Limited Edition set and etc. The runner ups prizes included RM250 and RM150 cash prize respective, silver coins and etc.
The participants were also given a chance to win Wongamania game sets through lucky draw and for the best social media postings. Everyone went home with a specially-designed Debtzilla pouch containing investment seminar event tickets, F&B discount vouchers and snacks.
